Vegan bento!

Monday, April 15, 2013

Hello Everyone!

Long time no post. Well, I have been busy working on my associates degree and working full time. But I finally got a little time to make a bento. In an effort to be more healthy, this is my all vegan bento. I have quinoa, which is a seed that can be used like rice and has tons of protein, a vegetable stir fry with red onions, red peppers, edamame (green soybean), and tofu; seasoned with garlic a little bit of salt and soy sauce. Yummy! Also, for dessert I brought two "candy" dried prunes on the right, sweet, delicious biscoff spread, and dried berries. This is an all around protein packed, healthy lunch, that still allows me to indulge in a bit of sweets! Enjoy everyone!

Second Shot at Greek Bento!!

Monday, December 19, 2011

Hey folks!!

I made another Greek bento, also a pita, and I think this one turned out just as good as the last one. This bento is more for the meat eater, where as the last one was suitable for vegetarians. I made Greek inspired meatballs with beef and included all of those delicious fresh vegetables to go with them. I also made cute little heart carrots for some color and flavor. In the little sauce bottles is a Greek tzatziki sauce that is made with yogurt, cucumbers and a lot of garlic. Please check out the recipes section to make your own tzatziki sauce. I found this bento to be very refreshing and flavorful. Enjoy your bentos and I wish you happy bento-ing.

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Hello all,

Long time no post! So sorry for the lack of updating, this will change in the New Year!! My New Year's resolution is to make more bentos and update the site more often, so keep checking in and prepare to be amazed!!!

This bento is Greek inspired. I made a pita with tons of fresh vegetables and a delicious tzatziki sauce. One of the pitas has grilled chicken that goes very well with these flavors. Please check out the recipe to make this pita. Not only is it delicious, it is also very healthy. This is a great bento to take to work for all of those New Year's resolutions to eat healthier. On the side I decided to add a little dessert of pumpkin spice pudding with a vanilla sprinkle lightning bolt to go with the Holidays. I hope you all enjoy this bento as much as I have. Happy Bento-ing folks.

Bento Pack Part 2

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

I wanted to make a bento pack of my own, I didn't have all of the choices DJ had but it was close enough for me, plus I ate everything in the pack! I had leftover General Lee's chicken, Snow peas in my favorite sauce mix, lovely heart shaped onigiri stuffed with Salmon, and a caprese salad style stuffed cherry tomatoes. In case you do not know what a caprese salad is, it contains sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and fresh Basil seasoned with salt, pepper and olive oil. in the Bento bag I had cookies for dessert, a mini pear and canned pineapple.

Curry Chicken

Monday, February 28, 2011

MMmmmm, this is a great way to eat healthy, you have a lean Chicken Curry with a ton of vegetables and on the side instead of Rice, DJ used Quinoa which is actually a seed that has lots of protein. Use this instead of rice in any of your Bentos and you will be filling your body with healthy goodness.

Enjoy!!

Presents for you

An egg present filled with beef and rice goodness, along with a strawberry red flower and some green snow peas with my favorite sauce mixture (soy sauce and duck sauce) to go along with all the fun.

Enjoy!!

DJs Bento Pack

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

As DJ Always says "A girl's gotta have options" this Bento fits that saying exactly, it has a wide variety of food to choose from. This Bento had everything from roasted chicken, carrots, tomatoes, rice with furikake and thats just inside the bento box, she also included a Banana, fruit jello cups, tea and soup base in the bento bag. If you're making a Bento and dont really want to eat just one thing, pack as much as you can and eat what you want and save the rest for later.

Onigiri for Elegance

Friday, February 18, 2011

I thought for this Bento I would go the traditional way with nontraditional ingredients. I made traditional onigiri with Tomatoes in the center instead of the pickled plum, they were pretty large and filling for the side I had broccoli that was a bit overcooked but still delicious because I flavored it with soy sauce mixed with duck sauce Mmmmm... Next to the limp broccoli I had the potato faces with a sauce bottle filled with ketchup mixed with mayo, salt and pepper.

Three Layer Bento

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Hello all!!

This is a quick Bento that literally took me minutes to make in the morning. I browned some ground beef, scrambled an egg and cooked leftover rice flavored with a little bit of salt and rice vinegar. For the sides I gave myself a cup of cranberries and carrots. Despite the messy look, the bento was very well seasoned and easy to eat.

Lamb Gone Pink

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Even if you don't like lamb, you will love this pink cutie. This is a design I picked up from the "Yum-Yum Bento Box" book by Crystal Watanabe and Maki Ogawa, this is a great reference book when you have a Bento's block (writer's block for bento-ers) I also made a grassy pasture with broccoli and green rice for the Lamb to graze upon and carrots act as the fence. For dessert I had orange segments sprinkled with a little salt. this was so delicious I hope you all enjoy.

Pink Tortilla Rolls

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Sorry for the delay in updating, from now on I will try to update as soon as the meal is eaten...I mean before the meal is eaten.

Anyway enjoy one of DJs bentos, I like to call it the Pink Tortilla Rolls because it is made with pink rice that was colored with food coloring. There are other ways to color your rice to make a bunch of fun designs and characters. Visit the "How to make a bento" Page for more tips.

Rosemary Roasted Potatoes Recipe

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Here is the Rosemary roasted potato bites recipe, they are delicious and are great for stuffing into the corners of your bento. They stand up straight on picks so they can go pretty much anywhere and that also means no messy fingers!!!

Ingredients
-Petite Potatoes
-Rosemary Fresh or dried
-olive oil
Salt Pepper to taste

Directions
First wash the potatoes, I left the skin on mine because it is more nutritious and adds texture. in a bowl, cover the potatoes in olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and chopped rosemary. Roast in the oven set at 375 degrees until tender. skewer with tooth pick or deco picks and stuff anywhere in your bento and it is ready to eat.

Enjoy!!

Quick and Easy Perogies Recipe

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

I finally got around to uploading the recipe for the perogies. They are so insanley easy and delicious that you can pretty much use them for anything such as a snack or a side dish or even the main course. I love this recipe because you can change it up however you like.

Ingredients
-1 Package Won ton wraps
-Cubed Yukon gold or russet Potatoes/mashed potatoes
-Cheese
-1 medium sized onion chopped
-Butter
-Water to boil
Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions
First you boil the potatoes in extremely salty water, you can leave the skin on or peel it. In the meantime, start the caramalized onions by putting a half a stick of butter in a pan on medium low heat and adding the onion with a pinch or two of salt, saute until brown stirring occasionally. Once the potatoes are fork tender mash them and add cheese, season to taste and set aside. Boil water and start filling the won ton wraps. Place 1 TBS of filling in the center of the won ton square and dab the edges with a little water to seal, once sealed boil in the water for a few minutes or until pasta is cooked. The Perogies a ready to eat but for added texture brown in the pan with a little of the butter from the caramlized onions and then top with the onions.

Sandwich Bento with Cranberry Pie

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I made a filling bento that is headache free but still cute and delicious!! If you're a fan like me of PB&J you'll like what I did with it. I cut them into cute shapes and put eyes with peices of cranberry. Accompanying the sandwiches I made some rosemary roasted potatoes which were made with fresh rosemary I recieved from a co-worker's personal garden. Some deli turkey for the protein wraped with feta cheese. The best part of the meal, as always, was dessert the Cranberry pie. Easy to make and absolutley delicious the cranberry pie was a great way to end this meal.
